We are very proud of our Island and the 16 miles of unspoiled beach that are part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Enjoy the unmatched natural beauty of Ocracoke's beach. You’ll find time to relax and unwind listening to the crashing waves and seagulls. Soak up the sun, enjoy the breeze, read a book, build a sandcastle, go swimming, catch a fish, or learn how to surf. You can enjoy our town by walking or bicycling the streets and back roads of our village.
While you are here visit our historic 1823 lighthouse, the oldest operating lighthouse on the east coast. If it's history you are looking for, you’ll find it at the Ocracoke Preservation Museum. Visit the historic British Cemetery. Take a hike through a maritime forest to Teach’s Hole, once home to the notorious pirate, Blackbeard.
Need some adventure? how about kayaking, kite boarding, surfing or parasailing? There's nothing like a day of gulf stream fishing with friends or family. Take a trip to explore nearby uninhabited Portsmouth Island where you'll find some of the best seashells anywhere.
There are wonderful places to stay on Ocracoke Island from charming rental beach cottages, bed & breakfasts, privately owned hotels and motels, and campgrounds.
We pride ourselves in having the freshest seafood in our fine restaurants. Try one of our specialties like Southern crab cakes, spicy steamed shrimp, or Ocracoke fishcakes. You may be lucky enough to catch an oyster roast at the local fish house.
The village has many unique shops to visit. We have everything you need to make your vacation wonderful: markets with groceries, gourmet shops, clothing boutiques, gift shops, sporting goods shops, and many wonderful galleries filled with local art.
